Proposal Outline

 I have started writing my proposal- see below for the outline

Your goals and objectives will give a better insight into writing your proposal.

Your proposal must be written with the following questions in mind –

a) what is your subject + a succinct history etc.?

  • Klara Chavarria: Klara Chavarría Kepfer, is an Artist and Designer that grew up in Guatemala City in a family of artists and teachers and started studying academic painting with a renowned artist and professor when she was only eight years old. 

  • In 1993, she relocated to the United States as a student and received a BFA from Kansas State University concentrating in Design, Visual Arts and Painting.

  • After working in the Design and Marketing fields and having her own business in these fields for several years, Klara decided to abandon her corporate life and pursue her art career & art practice full time professionally.

  • Her professional art practice + career started over 20 years ago in the Midwest, with studios in Chicago, IL & Cincinnati, OH, and presently in Miami, FL, where she currently works and resides with her permanent studio space in Coral Gables, FL.

b) what is it you want to do?

  • I want to use this publication as a way to explore Klara’s artwork through a visual language that will allow me to brand an exhibition based on her process and practice as an artist

  • I want the same concepts that she explores in her work to guide my design process: the human condition, spirituality and expressionism

  • Branding an exhibition dedicated to the exploration of what it means to be human

c) why it is important to do it?

  • I’m hoping the pairing between her work and my design/visual language will be a way to bridge the gap between art and design through empathy for us as humans

d) how you are going to do it?

  • Creating a publication featuring images of her work with some quotes/information/history from Klara that speak to her work as an artist

  • I also want to include some words from others who admire her work as well- possibly clients, curators, etc. as well as some professionals from the miami art scene and guatemala

  • I will combine all of this primary research into the text for this book

did the interview!

 since last posted i have the main content of my book laid out and have completed part 1 of my interview w Klara. Here's the transcript from the interview (I also recorded the Zoom so I have to go through it and obviously edit and fix things and maybe rephrase stuff to make it read well but here's the bulk of what we discussed). I organized the questions by chapter so we made it through the introduction, chapter 1, and 2! Initial Proposal DONE!

 Here is my running doc for my proposal. Obviously this might change over time but here is my initial thought process outlining my goals for this project. Subject My subject is an artist named Klara Chavarría. Chavarría is a Guatemalan artist and designer who comes from a family of creatives. In 1993, Chavarría relocated to the United States to receive her BFA from Kansas State University where she concentrated in Design, Visual Arts, and Painting.
